We all call a boat - a “Yacht” and a yacht - a “Boat” just to make things easier.
But really, what is the difference?
A boat is a watercraft that is less than 197 feet long from the tip of the bow to the end of the stern. A yacht is usually larger than 30 feet, but if it is luxurious enough, even a small boat can be referred to as a yacht. A ship is a watercraft over 197 feet long that can also be used for pleasure, commercial or residential purposes; therefore, a yacht can be either a boat or a ship, depending on its length.
Well, there you have it. Owning a yacht or spending time on one is not as far reached as you might have thought. Just 30 feet of luxury and you are Yachting. But what about Yachting in style?
Super Yacht vs. Mega Yacht
A yacht over 79 feet (24 meters) is referred to as a Super Yacht; one over 164 feet (50 meters) is called a Mega Yacht.
