On our recent trip to Russia, we have decided to try something different - instead of taking a flight from Moscow to Saint-Petersburg, we opted-in to try another way of Land Travel: the overnight train. I remember doing this as a kid and how fun it was, but since I'm no longer 14 comforts while traveling are at most priority and after all the “theme” of this vacation was "Lavishness Russian Style". I've heard about a Luxury Train called the Grand Express and it sounded like just what we have been looking for... What an experience! It absolutely surpassed our expectations. The size and the amenities of our Grand de Lux Cabins were impressive: AC, bathroom with a great sized shower and a Japanese LED toilet, heated floors in the bathroom, safe, electronic door locks, TV, free Wi-Fi, “boatload” of toiletries, robes, slippers, huge closet, tons of storage and almost a full size bed (my hubby and I both fit comfortably). It’s like a Luxury Hotel on wheels! Our Car Attendant Irina was fantastic... she seriously went above and beyond to accommodate us! My ONLY complaint - the journey was waaaay too short :-( We departed at 11.40pm and arrived at 8.25am... just short of 9 hours?! I needed at least 2 more days to take the full advantage of all the luxuries The Grand Express provides and calmly enjoy all the perks. But we have managed to squeeze all of these in (don’t ask me how):
Every time someone told me they would like to take the Grand Siberian Express or a long train trip somewhere, I never quite understood the “romanticism” of the whole thing. But the trip on the Grand Express has totally changed my mind. It was like being on a comfortable, well-equipped yacht...I could have easily spend 4-5 days cruising along the mother Russia. I would asolutely do this again! What a fun and exciting way of Land Travel! V This post is a collaboration with The Grand Express, all opinions are my own.
